To The Movies

With our AC still broken we were looking for cool things to do this weekend and we broke down and decided to go to the movies. This is the first time since Monster House that we all went to the movies together. At Monster House I spent most of the time in the hallway of the movie theater with kids 2 (too scared) & 3 (couldn't sit still) when we did that.

We went to see Wall-E. We all made it through the movie. Bobo is old enough now that he really enjoyed the whole movie experience. This was really his first time at the movies, because me hanging out at the front of the theater for Monster House doesn't really count in my book. He loved the previews, he just laughed through the whole Beverly Hills Chihuahua preview. (Disney sure knows how to market!---yes, the understatement of the day.) He talked about the Chihuahuas for a good while after the movie. It was a good movie going experience and we all enjoyed the movie too!

AC guy is coming today. Hopefully it hasn't broken beyond repair. Yes, three breaks in one week stunk. Thankfully the weather has been unusually nice and the humidity has even been low the last few days.

UGH!

Oldest's toe is broken. It broke at the joint. She went to the Y and was playing dodgeball with her injured foot and reinjured it. There was more swelling on the foot, so that raised out interest to take her to the Dr., yes 4 days after the injury. It's just a toe break and there is nothing they can do for a toe break, except charge you a lot for your visit to 2 Dr.'s offices. (UGH!!!!) So we just wait. The only limits to her activities are her pain.

Yesterday my brother surprised me with a visit from him and his 3 kids. And of course the AC unit broke again!!!! UGH!!!!

Broken Things

Broken Hip

The first thing that started off broken was my hip (not bone broken--just not working right kind of broken). My old injury came back and I have had to hobble more and wince a lot more. I was nearly in tears by the end of Saturday night. I had been going all day long. I have taken off a few days this week from working out and went to a chiropractor and had my first real adjustment. I am hoping this gets better soon. I quit working out all together last year because of this same injury and I don't want to repeat that.

Broke Car

Sunday morning started off with early morning meetings at church. Our early meetings start 2 hours before our services start. It's just a long day for me and the kids (it's just me & the kids at church, Hubby stays home). With meetings they're there for over five hours & that's just a long day for all of us. My hubby offered to drop the kids off, I was so thankful. Well about 15 min before church was about to start, he wasn't there, which is late for him. I started getting worried. I got a message on my phone that he had a flat tire, he had noticed it before he left the house. He got it fixed and got the kids there in their Sunday dress during the opening song. I was quite impressed. I was glad that he was able to fix it and we were able to get it patched later. He did get a speeding ticket on the way home.

Broke House

Our AC broke down Sunday night. It was fixed Monday evening to break again Monday night, but got fixed Tuesday evening again. It was hot and I totally was going to start Siesta in our house, but we usually had to leave by 3pm, or else drown in our sweat! Glad to have AC again.

Broke Kid

Because we had no AC. I went and searched for our slip n slide for the kids to play on to keep cool. Well, middle Child #2 rammed into Child #1's foot with her head while slipping & sliding. I was inside trying to read a book and Child #1 is very gifted in overreacting and exaggerating. I heard her just going on and on and on and on about how she was hurt. She limps on her foot a lot afterward, which she is also great at milking things. I hadn't noticed any swelling or bruising. I wasn't too concerned about it at all. So I just kind of ignored it, until later that evening, when she took off her shoe.....lot's of swelling and bruising. Oh, I felt just awful. Everything looked better the next morning, so I don't think there was an actual break, but I don't think I'll be up for the Mommy Award of the Year either.

Things Are Good

I know these things are such little things and we have really been enjoying our summer and having a blast!

Flashback Friday

The Inseparable Kids

Again, not a too far back flashback.

This one is taken from a few years back. Back when we lived in Albany, GA and my 2nd child and Stacey's 2nd child were just about inseparable. She had also lived in the area longer and helped us out a ton showing us places to go. Well, these pictures were taken of a trip to Pirate's Cove. It's a swampy area with walking & biking trails all over.

Well, while we are there, my oldest daughter was probably around 6. She fell over the side of the path, which was roped off. She fell right into a swampy area, into the water and landed straight on what I guess was a cypress either root or stump (the pointy kind) right in the middle of her stomach. It was a very scary experience, she ended up just being badly bruised.

Something close to those stump like things up out of the water.

I came across these pictures and just brought back some great memories.

Me and both of our kids.
Minus Bobo, he was probably home with Dad.

I have also had a lot of people ask me where Bobo got his nickname from and he got it from the little guy in the front. Yep, the little one with the pacifier.

We miss you guys!!!

I was tagged awhile ago, just slow about getting around to things. My friend Jennifer kindly tagged me.

How to play this game. Post these rules on your blog; List 3 joys, 3 fears, 3 goals, 3 current obsessions/collections, 3 random surprising facts about yourself. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names....

3 Joys

nothing out of the ordinary here for me
1. My family
2. Friends
3. Traveling

3 Fears

1. Choking on water, and not making it back to breathing.
2. Being in the dentist chair.
3. Speaking in front of a large crowd.

3 Goals

1. One day have a clean house.
2. Getting my 100 workout classes finished at the YMCA.
3. Unpacking my garage---sometime. (yep, I've been here almost a year, and my garage is still full of boxes)

3 Current obsessions/collections

Don't really collect anything, unless clutter counts.

1. Playing on my kids' Webkinz---yes, addicted to a few of those games.
2. Home school stuff.
3. Yard sales---I hate driving by one and not stopping.

3 Random surprising facts about myself

Well, for those that know me, I don't keep my mouth quiet about anything, so I don't think there is anything left to surprise y'all.
1. Multiple body parts--had two uteruses and two large toes on left foot. Both of the extras were functioning.
2. I've lived in 23 different places through 4 countries and 7 states in my 33 years of life so far. I really hate unpacking. I hope I am done moving for awhile. (only 2 of those places was snow a norm, and only a little bit of snow)
3. I really enjoy So You Think You Can Dance.

The five people being tagged are those who read this and want to do this. You are tagged. (I know that is cheating a bit.)

HEEEELLLPPP!!!!!

I am going to share with you some of my ignorance and also some pictures of my sad, sad, sad garden. (This is one of those times it's more embarrassing if you click on the picture to see it larger--you can see everything dying.)

I am ignorant in the realm of gardening, so please if you know something, or knows someone who knows something, I will take any advice. Or even a good book about it all.

The beans are the best thing surviving in my garden so far. Everything else has either died, or just barely hanging on. The biggest frustration/question I have---I keep reading about how you are supposed to support the beans with a pole and they might need help guiding around the pole. But I can not figure out the bean pole thing. I bought 4 foot bamboo poles to use, but I'm just not sure what I am supposed to do. How do you support the beans? (I feel stupid having to ask this.)

So now I am afraid that the only thing surviving is going to fail too.

Please help me have at least one thing survive!!!!!

Most things have not survived in my actual garden. You can see a patch of something in the upper right hand corner of the top picture. I didn't realize I wasn't going to have room for pumpkins or watermelons in my garden--those are the pumpkins in the picture. So I kind of just threw them in the ground and they are actually doing quite well, so far. It's going to be sad that if the only things to survive are the things not in the actual garden area.

Flashback Friday

Okay, my flashback wasn't too far back. This was from one whole year ago, from their dance recital in GA. I have had a lot of friend's kids in dance recitals and it reminded me of that hectic time. We moved here too late in the year and too broke to start the girls in anything. When I think about it, I just think of all the stress that came with doing it too. I've been secretly happy not to be doing some of these things. I know having them in extra activities can have it's advantages, just haven't been able to find the right thing for them here. The swim team has been the most tempting lately. I keep on thinking maybe next year I'll find something for them---then I worry that my natural procrastination will have them graduating college before I get around to it.

I'm up for suggestions for extra curricular activities that you have enjoyed your kids being part of.

I guess one of the thoughts I had with this post-- Is there an age that is too late to get your kids involved with some things. Now I know the Olympics are out of my reach-(kids too old for most things, no cash flow, missing talent). How do those people figure out they have an Olympic athlete anyway? Hey my kid's going to be the next Olympic Archer, Gymnast, Ice Sakter. Do they work on these ideas before kids are born? Awful side track (ADD moment). Finding their interests and balancing the finances for the stuff and life. It's a bit tricky. I guess this is just another point of their upbringing where we just muddle through it the best we can and don't feel guilty about anything. I am no longer making sense, and if I was wise I would just stop typing---and not post this. But I am too tired to reason well with myself, so I'll apologize instead. Sorry!

Going to Get My Girls

My girls have been visiting my in-laws for about 3 weeks. This was our first long separation (and possibly why I have had more time to enjoy the blogging world.) They had fun overall and I became much addicted to the blogging world.

Weighing In or Not!

I put my scale up a few days ago---since I was weighing myself all the time. For some reason I am supposed to start thinking about things differently, because I am not weighing myself all the time. It's been strangely weird not to get on the scale. I have been tempted every time I have gone to the gym. I have been tempted to just go and grab the scale out of the closet, for just one curious look. So far I have succeeded and have not given in to temptation, (well at least not this temptation).

Well, I had to make cookies for church last week and I froze the rest of the cookie dough, so I could have something to make really quick if I had to (and if all those cookies had been cooked, they still wouldn't be around). Well, so far I have only had to make spoonfuls of cookie dough jump in my mouth. Tonight I was craving a warm cookie(or maybe really more than one, because the cold cookie dough just wasn't cutting it). I put three not-so-small cookies in the toaster oven on a pie plate. I do believe my instructor was right, my thinking might have changed because I put up the scale. I actually thought---who cares, I don't have to get on the scale.

Maybe this wasn't the intent of this goal, but change has occurred and now my belly is full of warm chocolatey chip goodness, with milk of course.

Happiness

My negative Hubby gave me my inspiration for today's blog.

You Are a Positive Person

No one would accuse you of being too negative!

You're a naturally upbeat and optimistic person.

Like everyone else, you come across things you can't stand every day.

But unlike everyone else, you ignore what annoys you and focus on what uplifts you.

Flashback Friday

The Rights of Being the Oldest Child

I am the oldest of 3 kids in my family. I think there is a rule that being the oldest gives you the right to annoy your younger siblings and get away with it. So why should that end as you get older, (except it might be harder to get away with it now.) So try not to be too annoyed of these pictures, I'm sure there is someone around you that will laugh at you. (he he he---I'm just cruel)

My brother had some of the weirdest sleeping positions when he was a kid.

My sister fell hard to the 80's haircut and all. I think this might have been the "Achy Breaky" era, right around the same time getting a "tail" was popular.

I really do love you guys. I know we have all been through a lot and am glad that we have been able to stay as close as we have through all these years.

Brain Fart

Okay, I have been pretty exhausted lately. So brain functioning is low, I need to recharge soon. I've been in a state of constant brain fart recently, so I am sharing other's great wisdoms today.

I do love to read and really would love to have some good suggestions of for some good books. My friend was thinking along the same line with her book post. I had a good laugh. I almost peed my pants laughing while reading this post, (especially the charity never faileth) search around some, there are some hilarious things going on. Not to single out certain posts, I do have links to these and other friends posts on the left hand side, check them out, because today I got nothing!

Please still pass on suggestions for good books.

Corinth Greece

Travel Tuesday

My Hubby used to do a travelogue on his blog, way back when. I decided to share places I have been and also places I want to go.

Girls Camp
This was the entirety of the girls from our church youth group in Athens, Greece. This was when the group was at it's largest, later it was just me and another girl. Okay, I'll fess up I really think we were camping pretty close to Corinth, but I'm not 100% sure. My memory sucks, and nobody bothered writing on the back of the pictures, I know we hiked to see some ruins too (how unusual in Greece). It's sad when all the ruins just look like another pile of rocks. It was so bad that I never made it up the Acropolis to see the Parthenon all the years I was there.

I would love to go back and see these places again with an adult outlook on them. As you can tell, I wasn't too concerned with the awesome places around me. So I don't have much to tell about them.

We had a blast though. I was always one for making the best of the time you had and trying to make it as fun as possible. That is where the water-bottle dance came from. There was not much to do and it was extremely hot there, so we had to stay hydrated with water bottles, what's the best thing to do with empty water bottles? DANCE, of course!

It's great having these pictures of the great fun carefree times. Now we all must do something spontaneously, wild and fun today!

I think Michelle turned around to check out the guy on the rocks!

We camped in an actual tent!

The infamous "butt" picture!

Farewell Scale

I was talking with one of my aerobic instructors a couple weeks ago about my hatred for my scale. I bought my scale a few months ago, because my old one bit the dust. I spent some money on the scale, because I wanted a good scale. It does the body fat percentage, has a place for multiple users. Then just recently it seemed to start jumping weight up or down by up to ten pounds. Now when you loose 10 pounds in a couple days, you know something might be wrong with your scale, but it doesn't hurt your feelings much. When you gain 10 pounds practically overnight, it does nothing good, even though you know it's mostly just the scale.

My instructor asked how often I weighed myself. I told her daily, (What I didn't tell her was that I weigh myself all day long. I like to see how much I weigh morning, afternoon and night.) she frowned at weighing yourself daily. So I asked if weighing in weekly was better. She suggested just throwing the scale away all together and not get on a scale and to go by how you feel. Well, for someone who weighs themselves at least 3 times a day--that seemed a little drastic. (Okay, maybe I have a problem with the weighing in thing.)

I decided to put my scale away and put it up for a month. So I weighed myself yesterday and will be pulling out my scale 1 July. I'm hoping this helps me stay more motivated through the whole month also. Seeing I am working towards a longer goal, weighing myself through the day doesn't help towards anything. So hopefully this great new outlook will help, I will keep you posted, and hopefully I don't fall off the wagon, it'll be tempting to weigh in at the gym.

Yeah, I got problems, most people stay away from a scale at all costs.
